The Pagoda, as one of landmarks in Chinatown, was demolished

chinatown pagoda

One of the Chinatown landmarks, Pagoda, was demolished last week. Many Chinese who live in London felt upset when they heard the news.

The Pagoda was built in the 80’s last century. A Yangzhou garden designer was invited to design and built the pagoda. Since then, the pagoda has become an indispensable part of Chinatown in London. It carries a lot of people’s nostalgic memories. Also, It is the ideal meeting point for numerous Chinese people in London.

The pagoda was demolished because of the community improvement plan. Now the construction site displays empty space where the pagoda was.

BME Emotional Wellbeing Support

We just launched an Emotional Wellbeing Service funded by the NHS (Central London Clinical Commissioning Group). This is a free and confidential, informal counselling service to Chinese people who live in City of Westminster, Kensington and Chelsea, and Hammersmith and Fulham and are experiencing emotional difficulties but who are not specialist service users (e.g. Excluding those who are undergoing NHS counselling services, but including those who are taking mental health medications.)

Suitable Service Users

The service is FREE and CONFIDENTIAL and suitable to those who might be on a waiting list to receive NHS counselling services or have completely a NHS counselling service but seeking ongoing support from the community. It also suits those who have difficulties accessing mental health services due to language barriers as the service is provided in their preferred native language: Cantonese, Mandarin, English.
